Intuitive Vocalizing Therapy (IVT)

Inspired by the power of Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, and other Mindfulness-Based Interventions, Intuitive Vocalizing Therapy (IVT) is a tool to channel one’s self-talk in an intentional & compassionate way. IVT was devised using a Social Work Embodied lens, with the insight that the nature of our current day mental health care system keeps many from feeling safe to disclose their internal struggles to a professional. It was determined that channeling one’s self-talk in an intentional and radically compassionate way using a self-administered tool could make the healing process more accessible to those with limited resources or an overall distrust of the current systems in place. IVT also serves as a tool for providers who may need to process their own vicarious trauma in a more reflexive and confidential manner. This orientation to the work aligns with the core grounding principle of Theory U that speaks to the need for the “system to sense and see itself” in order for systems transformation to be possible (O. Scharmer, 2018). In order for providers to show up fully for their participants, they must first commit to their own healing work and IVT may be able to support them in that process.

Please share your thoughts and experience with the practice of IVT to expand our collective insight. We welcome anyone interested in sharing the gems that ground their personal healing & self-care practices to join Meditations on The Practice.

One Health

With a more expansive understanding of social determinants of health, SWE is a commitment to operationalizing the principles of One Health via interdisciplinary collaboration in order to better inform our transition from systems of harm to Communities of Care. Let’s talk about One Health and its impetus for stronger Public Health & Social Work strategic initiatives.
